Alikhan Smailov holds meeting with ArcelorMittal CEO Lakshmi Mittal

The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Alikhan Smailov, held a meeting with Lakshmi Mittal, Executive Chairman of ArcelorMittal.

The parties discussed the company's plans on modernization of production and improvement of labor safety, issues of product supplies to the domestic market and to neighboring countries, as well as prospects for transition to higher levels of metal products processing.

According to Lakshmi Mittal, the company plans to invest considerable funds into modernization of its steel and mining assets in the coming years. The company also plans to pay a lot of attention to employee training and safety.

Prime Minister stressed the need to maintain the current rate of production, expand the range of products and work more closely with the leadership of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development to address emerging issues.

"Industrial safety is a very important issue that must be given the utmost attention. In this regard, we welcome the company's investment plans for the development of production and specialized training of employees," Alikhan Smailov said.
