Pace of harvesting in Kazakhstan is higher than last year — Yerbol Karashukeyev

According to the report of the US Department of Agriculture and the International Grains Council, wheat production is expected to decrease in all major grain producing countries. Minister of Agriculture Yerbol Karashukeyev told about this in his report on the progress of harvesting at the government session chaired by Prime Minister Askar Mamin.

Thus, in Canada, a decrease in wheat harvest is expected by 34.5% compared to last year, in the Russian Federation — by 15%, in the United States of America — by 7%. Wheat production in the world, according to the International Grains Council, will amount to 781.7 million tons.

“The harvested area of grain and oilseeds this year is 18.9 million hectares. The forecasted volume of gross harvest of grain and oilseeds, according to the regional akimats, will amount to about 18 million tons, with an average yield of 9.5 c/ha,” Karashukeyev said.

To date, about 14.3 million tons of grain and about 200 thousand tons of oilseeds have already been threshed, while safflower is being harvested in the regions. The regions will start mass harvesting of all oilseeds at the end of this month.

The head of the Ministry of Agriculture dwelled on grain and leguminous crops separately. So, this year, 15.9 million hectares of grain and leguminous crops are to be harvested. According to the regional akimats, the projected gross harvest of these crops will be about 16 million tons with an average yield of 10.1 c / ha. The projected volumes of production of grain and leguminous crops, taking into account the carry-overs of the past years, make it possible to fully meet the domestic needs of the country.

“In the new season, the main supplies of Kazakh wheat and flour will be directed to traditional markets: the countries of Central Asia, Iran and Afghanistan. Due to the high quality of grain, it is possible to increase shipments of wheat (HI-Pro) to China,” added the Minister of Agriculture.

In the current year, the harvesting work began on time, while the pace of the harvesting campaign is higher than last year. So, to date, a total of 15.1 million hectares of grain and leguminous crops, or 95% of their total area, have been harvested in the republic, while last year, as of the same date, 14.5 million hectares or 91.5% were harvested. The average yield to date is 9.4 c / ha.

Yerbol Karashukeyev also noted that at present, they are also collecting vegetables, potatoes, melons and gourds and cotton. The next step is to ensure the quantitative and qualitative preservation of the crop. In general, the capacity available in the country is sufficient to store the projected harvest, taking into account the carry-overs of previous years.

The total storage capacity of grain in the republic is 29.3 million tons, including 12.4 million tons at grain-receiving enterprises, and 16.9 million tons at agricultural producers.

At the same time, according to the head of the department, the akimats need to constantly monitor the timely acceptance of the new harvest by the elevators, as well as keep under constant control the issue of ensuring the uninterrupted movement of grain.

In total, 1.9 million tons of grain were received from the new harvest to licensed grain-receiving enterprises, including:

  • 1.67 million tons of wheat;
  • 163.9 thousand tons of barley;
  • 56.4 thousand tons of other crops (oats, millet, buckwheat, rice).

The grain of the new harvest is characterized by high quality indicators. Thus, 91% of the total volume of soft wheat handed over to licensed grain-receiving enterprises was attributed to grades 1-3, when in 2020 this figure was 83.8%. Accordingly, the share of wheat of 4-5 classes and non-class wheat has been reduced to 9% against 16.2% in 2020.

According to data on the quality of grain supplied to grain-receiving enterprises, there is a significant increase in the share of wheat with a high content of gluten. Thus, in the volume of soft wheat of the 3rd class, the share of high-quality HI-Pro wheat with gluten of 28% and higher, which is in high demand in the world market, is 71.3% against 59.7% last year.

“As part of the instructions of the Head of State, this year the Food Contract Corporation carried out a forward purchase of agricultural products, thanks to which the volume of grain supplies to the Food Contract Corporation resources in the amount of 769.4 thousand tons was contracted. For a full settlement with the agricultural production company, the Food Contract Corporation established prices for the purchase of 3rd class wheat in the corridor of 103-107 thousand tenge, depending on the quality, for wheat of the 4th class — 98 thousand tenge, barley of the second class — 87 thousand tenge,” he informed.

He also noted that the purchase prices of the Food Contract Corporation correspond to the current prices in the domestic market. This allows farmers to cover their costs with a level of profitability that ensures the further development of the industry. Traditionally, the purchase price of the Food Contract Corporation is a benchmark when concluding contracts, thus establishing a fair price made it possible to prevent sharp fluctuations in grain prices.

As of Sep. 21, 119 thousand tons of grain of the new harvest were supplied to the resources of the Food Contract Corporation. In addition, the Food Contract Corporation already has a reserve stock of grain in the amount of 426.3 thousand tons. The indicated volumes of grain, if necessary, will be directed to the domestic market in order to stabilize it and ensure food safety.

According to the Akim of Akmola region Yermek Marzhikpayev, today the harvesting of grain and leguminous crops is at the completion stage.

“The threshing of cereals was carried out on an area of 4.4 million hectares, or 97%. With an average yield of 8.6 c/ha, 3.7 million tons of grain were threshed. By the end of this week, grain harvesting will be completed,” he said.

Oilseeds were harvested on an area of 85 thousand hectares, or 32% of the sown area, the gross yield was 56 thousand tons, with an average yield of 6.6 c/ha.

The harvesting of potatoes and vegetables is coming to an end. For harvesting operations, the region is provided with the necessary volumes of cheaper diesel fuel, there are no problems with the shipment of fuels and lubricants.

Taking into account the grain storage facilities of the farms, an opportunity has been created for storing 6.5 million tons of grain. All grain-receiving enterprises accept the new crop. The elevators received more than 1.5 million tons of new crop grain.

Indicators of the quality of this year's harvest are significantly higher than last year: 91% of the grain corresponds to the 3rd class. At the same time, 83% of wheat supplied to grain-receiving enterprises has gluten over — 30%, in 2020 this figure was only 70%.

During his speech, the head of the region expressed gratitude for the support provided to the agricultural industry, which this year amounted to 70.2 billion tenge. Including, as noted by Marzhikpayev, 39.2 billion tenge was allocated in the form of non-refundable state aid.

"More than 31 billion tenge has been allocated to lending field work to agricultural producers," the akim said in conclusion.

The harvesting of grain crops is also nearing completion in Kostanay region. This was announced by the head of the region, Archimed Mukhambetov.

“4.035 million hectares, or 99.4%, have been threshed, 2.924 million tons of grain have been threshed, the yield is 7.2 c/ha. Oilseeds were harvested on an area of 175 thousand hectares, or 29%, 54.3 thousand tons of oilseeds were harvested, yield 3.1 c/ha. The quality of grain is high, of the 334 thousand tons of soft wheat supplied to the grain-receiving enterprises, 96% corresponds to the 3rd class,” the akim of Kostanay region noted.

There are enough containers for storing grown products in the region, there are 8.3 million tons.

According to consumption standards, the annual demand of the region's population in flour for the production of bakery products is 22 thousand tons, for these purposes it is necessary to process 31.5 thousand tons of grain. The region is fully provided with flour of its own production.

For the wintering of livestock, 1,073 million tons of hay or 99% of the required amount have been procured. Of the succulent fodder, there is the required volume of haylage — 218 thousand tons, silage for the current period has been harvested 87%. The work on collecting fodder continues, the need for wintering for all species will be provided.

For the forward purchase, farms received 9.9 billion tenge of financial resources from Food Contract Corporation JSC. For this amount, 194 thousand tons of agricultural products are to be delivered.

38 thousand tons or 20% were delivered to authorized grain-receiving enterprises and re-registered in JSC Food Contract Corporation.

At the moment, commodity producers are preparing for field work next year. The required amount of seeds has been procured in the amount of 530 thousand tons.

990 thousand hectares of fallow were prepared, on an area of 876 thousand hectares, autumn treatments were carried out. Autumn tillage continues.

According to the Akim of North Kazakhstan region Kumar Aksakalov, to date, 2,795 thousand hectares of grain and leguminous crops or 93.4% have been harvested.

“According to preliminary data, more than 3 million tons of grain have been threshed, with an average yield of 10.6 c/ha. In general, according to the forecasted data, the gross grain harvest in initial weight is expected to reach 3.3 million tons. Oilseeds are harvested on an area of 382.4 thousand hectares or 39.9%,” he informed.

The harvesting of fodder is carried out as planned. 848 thousand tons of hay, 201 thousand tons of haylage, 115 thousand tons of silage, 338 thousand tons of straw were harvested. The provision of the population with fodder is 98.2%.

The gross harvest of potatoes at the moment is 167.2 thousand tons, with a yield of 124.4 c/ha, vegetables — 47.5 thousand tons, with a yield of 134.8 c/ha.

From the new harvest, licensed grain-receiving enterprises received 417.6 thousand tons of grain.

In the region, the Food Contract Corporation has contracted a forward purchase in the amount of grain 348.5 thousand tons. Today, grain is being delivered to linear elevators for delivery to the Food Contract Corporation.

Currently, preparatory work is underway for next year's harvest. The necessary complex of agrochemical measures was carried out in full.

More than 140 thousand tons of mineral fertilizers were introduced. By the end of the year, another 20 thousand tons will be brought in.

Work is underway to fill seeds for sowing in 2022 in the amount of 482.6 thousand tons.

Today, plowing is underway, the area of which this year will be 3 million hectares, fallow 610 thousand hectares.
