Vaccination rate in Kazakhstan reaches 71.5% — Alexey Tsoy

At the government session chaired by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin, the issue of the sanitary and epidemiological situation on the incidence of COVID-19 was considered. Minister of Healthcare Alexey Tsoy made a report on the measures taken to combat coronavirus infection in Kazakhstan.

According to the minister, the situation with morbidity and mortality from COVID-19 in the world continues to remain unstable. In total, more than 224 million cases of CVI have been registered in the world, more than 300 thousand cases are recorded per day. More than 4.6 million people have died.

According to the WHO European Region, over the past two weeks, out of 54 countries in 26 countries, there has been an increase in the incidence.

“Over the past 7 days, the largest increase in the incidence was noted in Hungary, where over a week the incidence increased by more than 100%, in Ukraine, Poland and Moldova — from 60 to 80%, in Austria, Germany and Belarus — from 30 to 50%, in Montenegro, Armenia and Israel — from 8 to 20%,” Tsoy informed.

According to him, a decrease in the incidence rate is noted in Spain by 60%, in France by 40%, in Georgia by 39%, Azerbaijan — 16%, Italy — 13%, Switzerland — 12% and in Russia by 9%.

In Kazakhstan, the increase in the incidence over the past two weeks has decreased by 35%. Over the past week, the incidence rate in the republic has decreased by 14% from 31 thousand to 25 thousand cases per week.

"According to the WHO, in Kazakhstan the reproductive number for the last four weeks is below one, which indicates that the pandemic is under control and there is a steady decline in the incidence," said Tsoy.

The positive dynamics of the incidence, according to the minister, was reflected in the matrix for assessing the epidemiological situation.

Over the past two weeks, 5 regions of the republic have moved from the red zone to the yellow zone, these are: East Kazakhstan, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda, West Kazakhstan and North Kazakhstan regions. Turkistan region is located in the green zone. The remaining 11 regions are in the red zone.

As the minister further noted, the positive dynamics of the epidemiological situation is evidenced by the increase in the number of recovered patients compared to the number of cases.

So, over the last week, the number of recovered patients was 1.5 times more than the number of cases during the week.

According to the daily monitoring of the employment of beds in the context of regions, as of Sep. 14, 2021, the employment of infectious and intensive care beds in the republic is 35% each.

In the country as a whole, since Aug. 1, there has been a decrease in the employment rate of infectious beds from 56 to 35%, and of intensive care beds from 45 to 35%.

“In connection with the stabilization of the epidemiological situation on coronavirus infection (CVI) in the regions, work is underway to reduce infectious beds. Since Aug. 25, 57 facilities have been closed in the cities of Almaty, Nur-Sultan, Shymkent, Atyrau, Karaganda, Turkistan, Mangystau regions, where infectious disease departments / beds were deployed to treat patients with CVI. In total, the bed capacity has decreased by 12,211 beds,’’ Tsoy informed.

To date, according to the minister, more than 7.1 million people have been vaccinated with component 1, coverage of the subject population amounted to 71.5%, with component 2 vaccinated over 5.9 million people, covering about 60% of the subject population.

The regions are provided with a sufficient amount of vaccine. Vaccines are being delivered on schedule.

“Vaccination is still the only specific measure to prevent coronavirus infection. Therefore, I urge every citizen of Kazakhstan to be vaccinated and contribute to the formation of collective immunity in our country,” Tsoy said at the end of his report.
