By order of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Prime Minister, Head of the Republican headquarters for coordination of flood control measures and elimination of consequences of the flood period Olzhas Bektenov is in Kostanay region, where the difficult flood situation continues.

Head of the Government made a flyover of the Tobol River bed, where the rise in water level affects the cities of Kostanai, Rudny, districts of Mailin, Denisovsky, Zhitikarinsky. 

Filling of reservoirs is approaching maximum marks. Thus, the Zhelkuarskoye and Amangeldinskoye reservoirs are filled 100%, Karatomarskoye 97%, and Verkhne-Tobolskoye 93%. Sergeevskoye and Amangeldinskoye are operating in transit mode at the capacity limit. 

At the same time, water inflow exceeds the current discharge volume. In the near future, according to forecasts, an additional increase is expected due to lateral inflow of melt water and water inflow from upstream. Adjacent territories near the cities of Kostanay and Tobyl are prone to flooding.

Olzhas Bektenov emphasised that the main task is to ensure the safety of our residents. Prime Minister familiarised himself with the measures taken to prevent deterioration of the situation. 

In the region in order to pass melt water, the non-functioning roadbed in the area of the small bridge of Kostanay city has been opened, settlements are being bunded, trenches are being prepared for the diversion of melt water, bagging and inert materials are being laid, water is being pumped out, etc. The work has been carried out. Blasting works on the rivers Karasu and Tobol were carried out. 

The works are carried out in a reinforced mode. About 2 thousand people, more than 650 units of equipment, motor pumps, as well as watercrafts and aircrafts are involved.

In the region since the beginning of the flood period 3257 people have been rescued and evacuated, 632 people are in temporary accommodation centres, the rest have been accommodated by relatives and friends. Additional evacuation and temporary accommodation centres are also on full alert.

The situation is under constant control.
