Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov held a meeting with the Director of the European Regional Office of the World Health Organisation Hans Kluge.

The participants of the meeting discussed joint work of the Government of Kazakhstan and WHO to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in the field of health. Thus, within the framework of the Biennial Cooperation Agreement for 2024-2025, special attention is currently being paid to the issues of universal health coverage, promotion of public health and improvement of human resource capacity.

WHO is an important strategic partner of Kazakhstan in the field of health care. Joint systematic work, including through technical and expert support, has resulted in a reduction in the incidence of respiratory and circulatory diseases and mortality, including from malignant neoplasms. In turn, adherence to the principles of the Alma-Ata Declaration on Primary Health Care has contributed to the reduction of maternal and infant mortality rates in the country and increased life expectancy. 

"Kazakhstan promotes the importance of strengthening primary health care. As you know, our President's initiative to create a Coalition of countries on PHC was supported by the WHO Director-General and the organisation's member states. An important step of our joint work will be the launch of the Coalition of countries on PHC with the participation of Member States and development partners in the framework of the 78th World Health Assembly in Geneva," Olzhas Bektenov said, noting that Kazakhstan is intensively expanding the coverage of health services both in health care facilities and for home-based care.

For his part, Head of the WHO Regional Office Hans Kluge noted significant progress in improving the sustainability of the national health system of Kazakhstan.  

At the end of the meeting were noted directions for strengthening further work to improve the quality of health services in order to achieve a high level of health of the population.
