Interdepartmental Commission: Tugzhanov gives instructions in connection with spread of new covid variant

A meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on Preventing the Spread of Coronavirus Infection in the Republic of Kazakhstan was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Yeraly Tugzhanov.

The main issues on the agenda related to the decision-making to combat COVID-19, the return and subsequent quarantine of Kazakhstanis in countries where the new omicron variant is spreading.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the epidemiological situation in the country is stable and stressed the need to continue work on vaccination of the population against coronavirus infection and other infectious diseases.

The Interdepartmental Commission noted that the optimal coverage of routine immunization for 10 months is 79%, with an optimal rate of at least 95%. In all regions of the republic, vaccination coverage against pneumococcal infection, pertussis, diphtheria, tetanus (DPT) has not been achieved.

Indicators below the republican value are observed in Almaty (63.4%), Atyrau (62.3%), Pavlodar (64.7%), Aktobe (66.1%), Mangystau (66.4%) and West Kazakhstan regions (67.4%). The heads of these regions, Karaganda, Almaty, Atyrau, Aktobe regions, where the rates of immunization have been constantly decreasing since October, were instructed to take special control over vaccination coverage.
