Askar Mamin meets with Head of World Customs Organization Kunio Mikuriya

Askar Mamin held a meeting with the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization Kunio Mikuriya.

The parties discussed issues of increasing the transit potential of Kazakhstan and its further integration into global transport corridors, implementation of international standards for trade facilitation, ensuring the security of the international supply chain and improving the collection of customs payments and taxes.

Particular attention during the negotiations was paid to expanding cooperation between Kazakhstan and the WCO in eliminating transit barriers, developing e-commerce, standardizing the exchange of customs information with foreign countries and further digitalizing export-import operations.

The Head of Government stressed that in order to increase the transport potential of the Republic of Kazakhstan in accordance with WCO standards, a new Nur Zholy checkpoint was built on the Kazakh-Chinese border, checkpoints B. Konysbaev on the border of Kazakhstan with Uzbekistan, Korday – on the Kazakh-Kyrgyz border were modernized.

Additionally, by 2024, it is planned to modernize 9 road and 1 railway checkpoints. Modernization of checkpoints will increase their throughput up to 8 times and reduce the time of crossing the border.

Mikuriya highly appreciated the reforms carried out in Kazakhstan in the customs and tax spheres, measures to modernize border checkpoints, form a national commodity distribution system and develop cross-border trade infrastructure of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Over the past three years, the WCO has sent 12 technical missions to Kazakhstan as part of work on the implementation of the main international conventions in the field of export-import operations. For 2022, 5 missions are planned to increase the transit potential of the Republic of Kazakhstan and simplify trade procedures.

Within the framework of the current visit to Kazakhstan, Mikuriya visited the airport of Turkistan and the modernized checkpoint B. Konysbaev on the border of Kazakhstan with Uzbekistan.

During his visit to Kazakhstan in March 2019, he visited the Nur Zholy checkpoint on the border of Kazakhstan with the PRC, the Astana - Customs Center post and the Continental Logistics transport and logistics center in Nur-Sultan.
