Branches of two more Russian universities — National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (in Almaty) and the National University of Oil and Gas, Gubkin University, (in Atyrau) — will open in Kazakhstan in autumn of 2022. The relevent decree was adopted by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The training of personnel in such priority areas as "Protected high performance computing systems", "Elementary particle physics and cosmophysics", "Oil and gas prospecting and exploration", "Development, operation and comprehensive mechanization and automation of oil and gas fields", "Oil and gas transportation" will start in October at the branches of the Russian universities. 200 grants are allocated for training in these fields. Leading professors and teachers from Russia will be involved in the educational process.
"Internationalization of universities and geographic expansion of cooperation will allow us to introduce more widely modern educational technologies for training professional personnel and organizing scientific research. Russian science in terms of training technical personnel has always been one of the best in the world. Their experience will be very useful to us," the Minister of Science and Higher Education, Sayasat Nurbek, said.
The opening of branches of Russian universities will enable young people in Kazakhstan to receive diplomas of leading foreign universities without leaving the country. It is necessary to remind that the work on opening of 5 new branches of foreign universities in the country till 2025 is carried out under the instruction of the Head of State.
The Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia, as well as the Agreement between the governments of Kazakhstan and Russia on the establishment and operation of branches of Kazakh universities in Russia and Russian universities in Kazakhstan were signed in February 2022.
