Government considers improvements of border crossing points

The progress of the project to modernize the checkpoints was discussed at a meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerulan Zhamaubayev with the participation of representatives of government agencies and organizations.

Today the State Revenue Committee is upgrading and retrofitting 9 automobiles, one rail checkpoint on the external border of EEU and the main control center in Astana.

Construction at Dostyk Automobile and Dostyk Railway facilities was launched in June 2022. The production of concrete mix and its pouring were hindered during the winter period due to climatic conditions. The work was resumed in March of this year.

According to information from the State Revenue Committee, construction and installation work on other sites has been carried out since early January this year. Today many sites are mobilized with technology and manpower; buildings and structures are being dismantled on vacated sites, and excavation and foundation work is also underway. On the average 20 to 50 workers are working on the sites.

At the end of the meeting, Yerulan Zhamaubayev gave a number of instructions to state bodies, emphasizing the importance of the ongoing project. The Border Service of the National Security Committee and the Ministry of Finance need to maintain special control of the implementation of all works on the border checkpoints, as well as to allow the implementation of construction and installation work around the clock, to accelerate the transfer of cables (special communications) at the checkpoints "Bakhty" and "Kalzhat". Also, the Ministry of Energy was instructed to accelerate the process of transferring the main gas pipeline on the Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan border.
